Tonight, our dream of moving forward in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament has come to an abrupt end. In the semi-finals we had to beat 0-2 against Cowley College. The game took place at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas, and the cold temperatures did the rest.
We started a lot in the game and had some good opportunities early in the game. I myself had 6 shots at the goal (die große Chance...)But it just didn't work. We could not find the right combination against the Tigers and so it went with a 0-0 in the halftime break.
Unfortunately, the second round did not start in our favour. Cowley struck quickly: Only 2 minutes and 24 seconds after restart, Carmelo Bello scored the first goal of the game. It was his first goal in the tournament. A little later, after less than 10 minutes, Joao Magalhaes increased to 2-0 for the Tigers. After that, Cowley only needed to defend the lead.
Despite the setbacks, we continued to do our best and launch strong attacks, but it was just not our day. In the end, it was the second time this season that we stayed without a goal.
With this defeat, we end the season with a record of 16-3-2, which is the second highest number of victories in the history of the program. For 16 Sophomores, it was the last game with Eastern Florida State College 😢, and left the team with a total of 31 wins and two participations in national tournaments.
It’s been an incredible season for the Titans and I’m proud to have been part of this team! 💪⚽️
